  1. Makar Sankranti Puja

    Makar Sankranti Puja

    Sun begins its Northward movement in Makar Rashi (Capricorn) on Makar Sankranti. On this day Sun moves from Sagitarius sign to Capricorn sign which marks the auspicios time for new beginings. Makar Sankranti is also a harvest festival dedicated to the Sun.

    Makar Sankranti Story:

    As per Hindu belief, Surya Dev (Lord Sun) visited his son Lord Shani on this day. Lord Shani is the lord of Capricorn sign. Surya Dev and Lord Shani maintained an enimity because Surya Dev did not liked the dark complexion of Lord Shani. This day is regarded as the day of new beginings by burying the past bitterness.

    As per Mahabharat, Bhishma Pitama chose to leave his body on this day only to attain heavenly abode.

    On this day Surya Devta is worshipped.
